Alex The Astronaut and Nooky have joined the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Australian Music Prize (AMP), presenting the new AMP’ed UP campaign.
The campaign, introduced today in partnership with Soundmerch and with support from the Australian Government through Music Australia, celebrates and amplifies Australian music.
Unlike the AMP’s winner – who will receive a cash prize at the end of the year – AMP’ed UP exists to uplift the entire music ecosystem. With Alex The Astronaut and Nooky leading the charge, the campaign will look to encourage music fans and industry professionals to embrace the creativity and diversity of our world-class music scene.
For this year’s Australian Music Prize, the AMP team has joined forces with The Annex to boost visibility and engage with the broader music-loving community, reaching listeners on social media, artist interviews, and weekly album wrap-ups.
Since its inception in 2005, the Australian Music Prize has had an abundance of impressive winners, including RVG, King Stingray, Genesis Owusu, The Avalanches, and more. The nominees for this year’s prize are announced weekly on social media and through the AMP website.
This year’s nominees are no less diverse than years past – there’s hip-hop, pop, blues, metal, hard rock, country, and more in the running.

Some of the nominees include 3% (for KILL THE DEAD), Future Static (Liminality), Grace Cummings (Ramona), Full Flower Moon Band (Megaflower), Emma Donovan (Til My Song Is Done), The Kid LAROI (The First Time), Hiatus Kaiyote (Love Heart Cheat Code), King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard (Flight b741), and stacks more.
Discussing his delight at being part of the AMP’d UP campaign, Nooky said, “Being a part of the AMP’d UP campaign this year is mad exciting.
“Local music is on some real powerful vibes right now, and the AMP has always been about repping the raw, unfiltered creativity from this country. I’m all about backing our people and letting the world know what this country is bringing to the table.”
Alex The Astronaut added, “I’m so so so excited to be part of AMP'd UP this year. Every time I’ve seen AMP’s list of nominees, I’m astounded by how perfectly creative and unique Australia’s music scene is.
“It’s a privilege to be a part of, and I’ve loved listening through this year’s nominees. The Australian Music Prize is a moment to celebrate what makes our music so special and to support the artists who are sharing their stories with the world.”
Founder and Director of the Soundmerch AMP, Scott Murphy, said of Music Australia’s involvement in the campaign, “It's so uplifting to have a federal government directly invest in the promotion of new Australian music! The funds provided by Music Australia will be used to promote some of the 20th AMP's nominated albums, the 9 Shortlisted albums and the winner of this 20th prize.”
You can follow the 2024 Australian Music Prize on the website and Instagram. The shortlist of nine albums will be revealed late next month.
