With his latest musical creation, Bar Open OG and Melbourne jazz/contemporary music aficionado, Ben Carr, has called on some serious musical muscle to take listeners on a journey, opening the door to a conversation that seems endless with possibilities.Paying homage to his heritage and his love of the power of the natural world, Ben (saxophone, yidaki) brings together long-time collaborators and friends, Adam King (drums), Tom Fryer (guitar) and Philip Rex (bass) in a bid to harness the energy of Ra (the Maori word for “sun”).The result is a sound that emulates the magnificence of Ra in an intimate, four-way conversation between a group of good friends and accomplished musicians. Warm and round, blistering with energy, radiating life force.Compositions informed by contemporary jazz, inspired by the pioneers of the M-Base movement of the late 80s, the audience can expect wave after wave of sonic, abstract imagery.Bonfires during Solstice; undulating mountain trails; still, silent water - improvisations that encompass the solar system and the wonders that abound within.
