Naarm/Melbourne-based four piece release a new single of genre-fusing indie rock sounds with a nostalgic & retro music video.
It’s been a couple of years since we first met The Belair Lip Bombs, a Naarm/Melbourne-based four piece who crafty catchy & atmospheric rocking indie pop sounds, and they’re back with a new single and music video, with Gimme Gimme premiering on Pilerats today, a day ahead of release.
The second taste from their forthcoming debut album Lush Life (set for an August 25 release), Gimme Gimme sees TBLBs channel a number of styles, with 80s post-punk and new wave flavours meeting indie rock.
Speaking on the meaning of the track, vocalist Maisie Everett explains “It’s a carefree, almost shallow, flirt-rock song with no deep meaning. I wrote the verse the night before
recording it & that kind of set the tone for the whole song. It’s entirely tongue in cheek & in my head it has this nostalgic/kitschy feel of 80s rock”.
Nostalgic/kitschy are also perfect descriptors for the music video that sees the band performing in a retro lounge room complete with shag pile carpet, vintage furniture and plenty of orange colour, with some slick editing and a bit of inception vibes as footage of Maisie singing on a CRT television plays in the middle of said room - fantastic stuff!
