"I wanted the message to be uplifting and positive."
Romanie is back, premiering her brand new video exclusively with The Music today!
Fake Friends is the latest single from the Melbourne-based artist, who is already enjoying a successful 2021 off the back of her track I'm Anything (But Myself Around You) which picked up plays on both triple j and Unearthed.
The track is produced by James Seymour (Feelds, Merpire) and mastered by Isaac Barter, with the video by Red Cloud Films.
“When Mal and Brayden (from Red Cloud Films) suggested they’d wanted to make a video clip for me, I immediately told them I had the idea to work together on the video of Fake Friends, as I wanted this to be a collaborative song and project with my friends involved," said Romanie.
"Although some of the lyrics in Fake Friends are pretty negative, I wanted the message to be uplifting and positive. I find it so beautiful that I can highlight so many of my amazing friends through this song.
"Every ‘stranger’ you see in the clip, is also a friend of mine," she continued.

"We wanted to show a very positive and bright person going into the big city with high hopes to find friends, but this person would soon learn it’s not as easy as expected to find true friends. The closer we get into the city, the darker the mood gets and typically Melbourne it, of course, started to rain as soon as we crossed the William Barak Bridge.
"The end of the video is symbolic with the reversed shot of the petal coming back to the rose after I’ve picked it a few shots earlier - to show there’s always hope for friendship."
