Dan Kelly (Jamie Wdziekonski)
A few weeks ago, critically acclaimed Aussie singer-songwriter Dan Kelly released the second single from his forthcoming album, GOLDFEELS. With his new album out next week (6 September), Kelly has shared a video premiere for his single Golden Shoes = Country Blues, exclusively with The Music, ahead of its official drop tomorrow.
Golden Shoes = Country Blues is a bright tune anchored by pianos and a groovy beat. The music video for Kelly’s latest track provides the kind of wacky, interesting visuals you’d hope for while listening to the song.
The music video finds Kelly wearing a puffy golden suit, playing guitar and pianos in the dark and colourful effects, bushwalking with a hammer, and jamming along as the song builds and builds, even calling for a guitar solo.
In a press release, Kelly said of the song, “Golden Shoes = Country Blues contains a list of all the things I don’t want to do. The list song has a long history in popular music, going back to the Catalogue Aria of Italian Comic Opera in the 18th century.
“Modern examples would be songs like Paul Simon’s 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover, Dick Diver’s Head Back, The B-52s’ 52 Girls, and Bob Dylan’s All I Really Wanna Do. Golden Shoes = Country Blues is a song that addresses the peace, isolation and occasional dread of living alone in a small country town. To me, it has a vibe that is similar to that of early Nick Lowe or Joe Jackson. But I’m possibly projecting here!”
