Ahead of their slots at Mountain Goat Valley Crawl, indie legends The Buoys and The Terrys catch up and discuss a range of topics from their go-to karaoke songs, to the contents of their dream toasted sandwich.
L-R, The Terrys, The Buoys
Hil: Uranus (unequivocally the funniest of the planets).
Tess: Kepler−442b is supposed to be ok to live on potentially, and we are pretty keen not to have to live underground forever with the extreme atmospheres of other planets. It’s also twice the size of the Earth, so imagine the possibilities.
Zoe: I’ll go extreme and say, Mars, mostly because I’ve been watching too much Doctor Who.
Hil: Zo would say Taylor Swift, but I’d be keen for David Bowie or Janelle Monae.
Tess: Josh Homme - he has produced some awesome albums and seems like a real musical genius.
Zoe: Hilary is correct; it’s 1000000% Taylor Swift.
Courtney: We all have very different inspirations. Zoe would say Taylor Swift & chicken burgers, Tess says Nick Cave and Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys drummer),
Zoe: In music, it would have to be Taylor Swift for her storytelling, The Beatles for their hooks and Queen for their theatrics. In life, it would have to be fried chicken but on a more serious note, my family, especially my Dad, who was also a muso.
Hil: In music, Ry Cooder and Jonathan Zwartz are huge influences on me - they play and write the kind of music where you unearth new things on every listen. In life, it’s everyone and everything - big big love to my fam and friends.
Tess: I think we would be a Beluga whale - they are super smiley looking (as all of us are), cheeky (just like Courtney), social, very vocal and communicative (like Tess and Zoe), and I’ve seen one play fetch so they’re sporty too (covers Hilary).
Zoe: I could be biased because they’re my favourite animal, but I’d say we’re a Hippo. Hippos can be the cutest plush toys, while at the same time, they are the deadliest animal in the world. Cute but fierce lol. Plus! They’re basically engineers since they create new channels and water systems just by walking on floodplains. Hippos are the coolest.
Hil: Probably an Echidna wearing a scarf driving a car (see our latest merch).
Tess: Can we pick two?? The first is Violent Soho at the Lansdowne, the gig was so sweaty that the crowd caused the fire alarm to go off, and the fire brigade had to come in (I reckon they just missed out on tickets and wanted to get inside). The second is recently when we supported Arctic Monkeys at the Domain. It was one of those perfect balmy summer Sydney evenings, and it was so special to play alongside our musical heroes and to such a generous crowd in one of Sydney’s most iconic venues - the stuff of dreams!
Zoe: This is the hardest thing to choose!! The girls have mentioned so many of my faves, but a reaaally special show to me was our show at The Opera House. My whole family came, the crew were so incredible, and the crowd was filled with legends; it was probably the most wholesome gig ever.
Hil: Supporting Violent Soho at the Lansdowne has to be up there for me. The gig was so sweaty that the crowd caused the fire alarm to go off, and the fire brigade had to come in (I reckon they just missed out on tickets though, and wanted to get inside because they were Soho fans). Absolutely electric energy.
