Highlight Of The Decade
It's been a massive decade artistically – we've seen the theatre and film industries shift to include more women's voices, and, in the wake of #MeToo, try to change their practices to make women feel safe. We've seen complicated, difficult women lead major movies and critically acclaimed TV shows. We've listened to the rise and rise of sad girl pop music, my favourite genre. And there are women around the world slaying their comedy specials.
On a personal level, I've lived in three countries over the decade, travelled through Europe and the US, and read many, many books. I've been incredibly privileged to see theatre in New York and London and Edinburgh and across Australia, and to interview some real heroes of mine, from Kim Gordon to Carrie Brownstein to Paul Dempsey (repeatedly). I've forced myself to sit with discomfort, I've manned taps, I've travelled alone, I've gotten weirdly into second grade NRL, I've been catastrophically dumped and then deeply reckless. And I've found my people, here and in the UK. Look, mum, I'm a big girl now!
Prediction For Next Decade
We decide that there is simply too much content for any one person to consume, so people finally stop pressuring me to watch Twin Peaks.
