"I knew I needed to leave the song a little open at the end."
Although born in Queensland, singer-songwriter Stu Larsen spends little time at home.
The prolific international touring artist had a huge 2019, the highs and lows of which are captured throughout his upcoming album, Marigold, and specifically in closer Phone Call From My Lover, which today gets the music video treatment.
“Phone Call From My Lover was written just one week before we started recording the new album and it kind of feels like a little ‘PS’ at the end of the record,” Larsen told The Music.
“I wrote it knowing that things were really finished with the girl who broke my heart (and who also inspired pretty much every song on the album) but somehow there was this little tinge of hopefulness throughout the song. Or maybe it was just a feeling of contentedness with the situation.
“Whatever the case, I knew I needed to leave the song a little open at the end so that I could leave the door a little open in case there was a chance things might eventually work out someday.”
With a run of international tour dates lined up for March, Larsen will release Marigold on April 3 via Nettwerk Records.
