Running Touch shares new single Signs, launches collaborative session series

Over 2020, Running Touch has been busy bringing a vision to life. Since the beginning, the Melbourne-based musician has been at the forefront of creative expression, whether it be as a multi-instrumentalist pushing boundaries through a series of projects that amplify his many different strengths, or whether it's how he builds universes around everything he does; a single release not just being a one singular song, but instead an opportunity for Running Touch to combine it with other artforms and realms, both online and on the live stage.

However, the last six months or so have really seen him double down on his craft, with the anticipation of a debut album finally bringing his overarching, fully-fledged visions to life. It all began with Meet Me, a single that had the once semi-mysterious musician enter the limelight for the first time, presenting an opportunity - as the aptly-titled single suggests - to meet the musician behind the craft. And, even though things have been a bit turbulent with a lack of live shows and whatever else, Running Touch has still managed to remain focused; eyes forward on what's incoming.

Now, with his new single Signs, the greater world Running Touch is hoping to build is finally starting to unfold. It's a song that further deepens his versatility and musical range, capturing that distinct Running Touch spirit but in a bit of a heavier, indie-rock-pop-esque lens, a nod to his earliest work as a producer and session musician for punk outfit Ocean Grove. In saying that, it doesn't veer away from the Running Touch core sounds; fluttering guitar work and his vocals, for example, remaining front and centre even as the instrumental behind them warps and distorts.

The new single also arrives with the launch of the Post Modern Collective Sessions, an ongoing series that throughout the span of Running Touch's album roll-out, will deliver videos that focus on authentic musicality within the Australian music community, and building a close-knit community that really emphasises this sense of musicianship.

The first, which focused on the percussive backbone of Signs, features a collection of musicians that really help showcase Signs' genre-bending sound, with drummers spread across the electronic, punk and metal worlds further deepening the single's pop-meets-rock-meets-electronica twists: Ocean Grove’s Sam Bassal, Northlane’s Nic Pettersen and Crooked Colours’ Lampy; each drummers of some of Australia's defining new-age acts.
