Iconic alt-rockers announce digital reissue & remaster of their acclaimed self-titled record.
Released back in 2008, acclaimed Dallas-formed, New York-based alternative rock band Secret Machines’ self-titled album, their third-full length, never really got the love it deserved - not just from critics, but from their own label who were so confused by the band’s slightly more experimental and spacey sound.
“One particular guy epitomized the vibe,” explains vocalist and bassist Brandon Curtis. “He was obviously unhappy with the record, but the way he communicated his feelings was so convoluted. He asked us to make changes, and as I expressed our willingness to discuss any ideas he may have, he just kept saying ‘no.’ I’m not sure what he was even saying ‘no’ to!”
“At that point,” adds drummer Josh Garza, “the writing was on the wall. They felt like they’d given us a chance and were really upfront. So we asked them to give us the album and they were like, ‘Sure, take the album; no harm, no foul.’”
The good news for this overlooked record of experimental “space rock” goodness is that the album will get a second chance at listener’s ears, available digitally for the first time and remastered by the one and only Simon Scott of Slowdive fame.
