Beloved Perth misfit announces his new album with a rollicking cut of alt-country rock and a light-hearted music video featuring a whole heaps of senior citizens getting their groove on - take a first watch.
After releasing his latest single The One last October (that made our Best Music Videos of the Week), lovable larrikin and modern troubadour Peter Bibby has announced the follow up to 2020’s Marge LP, with new album Drama King set for a May 31 release. Alongside the announcement comes new single and video combo The Arsehole, out February 15 but premiering on Pilerats today!
An upper tempo jaunt, The Arsehole features Bibby’s signature tongue-in-cheek humour and self awareness, with lyrics like “You’re the arsehole, don’t you know it, getting shit written about you as if this areshole thinks that he’s some kind of poet” making things a bit meta here.
On his new single, Peter explains “The arsehole is the grand finale on the digestive rollercoaster of most living creatures, it is also the name of my brand new song, The Arsehole. Featuring drums, guitars, human vocals and keyboards, the song works its way around two chords, quickly touching on a third towards the end to keep you, the listener, intrigued. The words are at times self reflective, at other times accusatory, but all the time really good and hinting at the fact that maybe we’re all just a pack of arseholes. I trust you will enjoy my new music, 'The Arsehole'."

The second taste we’ve had of Drama King, Bibby’s new album saw him trying something new - working with a producer, teaming up with the talented and prolific Dan Luscombe, who’s recently handled production duties for the likes of Ben Salter, Bad//Dreams, Courtney Barnett and Amyl and the Sniffers.
“It was the first time I'd worked with a producer, and I prepared for it knowing that my songs were going to get chopped up and shortened,” Bibby recalls. “I’m glad I did, because for the most part, Dan was like, oh, you've already solved every problem I had with these. He was completely underselling himself, because he shaped and sculpted every song on the record into a far more beautiful and articulate thing than I could have on my own."
Leading up to the album’s May release, Peter Bibby’s Big Horse Band will be holding down a weekly residency at Fremantle’s Buffalo Club across a four week stretch before heading off on a national album tour this June - see below for all dates and take a first watch and listen to The Arsehole:
