Like a phoenix rising from the ashes..
A few weeks ago we were left with the sad news that Jinja Safari were amicably calling it a day, and while we knew Pepa Knight had been running his own solo project for some time, we've been waiting to see what may come from the other members. Enter drummer Jacob Borg and his project, Berlin Bar Hounds. It's actually been running for a while now, with the last music released in 2014, but now with plenty more free time on his hands he's turning his attention back to BBH. And we're chuffed today to premiere his next foray into the Australian music scene, Skeleton, packing some The National-esque vocals with a surprising, almost LCD Soundsystem-style synth breakdown as the track rolls on. We asked for a bit more info about Berlin Bar Hounds, and you can oblige before streaming Skeleton below:
"The project is mainly me, sometimes I throw my mates in the deep end and force them to record parts on the spot. It came about after Marcus (Jinja Safari) heard a shitty demo of mine in the early stages of the Jinja Safari and kinda kept nagging at me to do more. Me being a shy lad took ages to get the confidence up to show him anything else. I eventually did and the songs progressed to a stage where I felt comfortable sharing one with everyone. Well, that's a lie. Marcus just went ahead and released it for me. I still don't really feel comfortable showing people my stuff but with each song it seems less scary and intimidating. Which brings me to now, releasing Skeleton. I don't really like talking about what the songs are about, I like that mystery and the idea that people make it what they think it is about. I know I do that with my favourite songs. But i'll just tell you briefly that it's about my younger brother going through a heavy time from smoking too mucha that reefer and confusing his pretty little head."
