Musical nomad Jodi Martin loves being on the road with her guitar and Kombi so much, her new video clip for Diesel is heavily influenced by her experiences on the highways.
She cites a "pivotal" thrift-shopping moment in Newtown as inspiration for the song — with a maxed out credit card in hand, she had to turn her back on a $150 skirt she loved.
Next door, she found an $8 skirt she loved — "it was a Diesel skirt - a wraparound black denim with funky frayed edges". She told herself she would "make it fit" even though it was a bit too small, and stoked with her purchase, she found herself writing the verses to Diesel mere hours later.
"Diesel, to me, is about understanding that our dreams are not always found in the most obvious places… we need to search in nooks and crannies, in op shops and on the highways, in garden beds and among the weeds, in the face of a homeless person, in the heart of a troubled universe that rises every morning to the light of an ever glowing sun."

The video is similarly optimistic, featuring grand landscapes and Martin's trusty white van. She's currently on the road playing over 30 shows in the same Kombi, stopping nationally from 12 August until 3 December. Head to theGuide for full details on the tour.
