Premiere: Jarryd James unveils a subtle, live acoustic version of Miracles

Jarryd James' talents is something that at this point, needs no introduction. His 2015 single Do You Remember is one of the most popular Australian tracks of the decade (it was the fourth most Shazammed song in Australia for the decade, FYI), but since then he's come to define his place time and time again, through EPs such as his Broods-featuring 2016 release High or through singles and other snapshots that have littered the time since; the last twelve months, for example, giving us two in the form of Problems and Miracles.

Miracles is the latest of the tracks, arriving back in October alongside the announcement of his forthcoming new record P.M., due for release in January next year. It's a single that sees the Brisbane-based musician capture a sense of evolution that's sure to be displayed amongst much of the record, one that taps into newfound producers - Clams Casino (A$AP Rocky, Vince Staples), Malay Ho (Frank Ocean, John Legend) FrancisGotHeat (Drake, Travis Scott) and Joel Little (Khalid, Lorde) - to unearth deeper, brooding edges of his sound that shows how he's grown in the last five years both musically and personally, and everything that's gone into that.

One thing that has obviously not changed, however, is Jarryd James' lyrical potency, and his ability to use songwriting as a vessel to explore his life and the deeper meanings around him - something that Miracles really captures, as he sings out to the greater beings: "I been praying so long / I been waiting so long / I been praying for miracles / I been praying so long," he sings.

Today, we're premiering a stripped-back, live acoustic take on Miracles which isn't just a reminder of Jarryd James' foundations and his craft in deeply potent storytelling, but also in how Miracles has a certain, beautiful quality to it that really shines when stripped back to the bare bones. Filmed and edited by Mitch Lowe, it's a striking, dim-lit video that really brings out the aching uncertainty of Miracles, and the slithers of hope that weave in and out of his lyricism.

"I was at my friend place doing 2 weeks out of Sydney before I could enter QLD again after being down there producing, and so I thought I’d use my time to make some different versions of a few songs from the album," he says on the video. "I lost my lower register after the two weeks but thankfully my falsetto was still intact so I just sung the whole thing way higher than the original."
