Over the last seven years, Melbourne's Hayden Calnin has emerged time and time again as one of our leading names in subtle indie-electronica, bridging the gap between tender, guitar-backed folk and electronica with his signature, often-minimalist beauty. It was something front and centre on his two-part 2016 albums Cut Love Pt. 1 & 2, and something that he's consistently fleshed out and experimented on with every release since - his 2017 EP Dirt, his three-track Of Collingwood collection earlier this year, his work with electronic super-group OK Moon, and on his latest single, Fuck Collingwood.

Fuck Collingwood, which arrived with an accompanying B-side titled Late, is a story about finding some space, with Calnin reflecting on his move away from the bustling inner-city to find solitude and inspiration in an area quieter. "I’d been living in and around Collingwood, a suburb of Melbourne, for the last 10 years. I’ve loved it, I’ve hated it, and finally I’d left it," he said on its release. "Fuck Collingwood is a reflection on my time living there, and about me realising that I had to get out of the city and find some space for a while, and go live near the ocean. At least for a little bit." Music-wise, it was soft and full of reflection, with Calnin digging deep to spark another fire of his emotive, indie-infused sway - this time, largely focused on his crooning vocal.

Today, we premiere the single's official video clip, directed and edited by Hayden Calnin himself as he continues to flex his multi-disciplinary art muscle and strengthen his name as one of the Melbourne music scene's most creative. It follows one of those all-familiar nights where you basically go out just for the sake of going out, which often, leads to a less-than-great time, as he explains: "I wanted to sum up a typical night out in Collingwood, but one of those nights where you don’t have any real plans and you just head out for the sake of heading out," he says. "Nothing special about it, just the usual. Meet up with some friends, get up to a little mischief, grab a kebab and head home. It’s a standard night out in the North side of Melbourne when you are feeling a little lost in your life. A routine I was getting really tired of."
