From Newcastle NSW hails post-punk group Dust, a band who have been gaining local momentum with sell-out powerful live shows along the east coast. Releasing singles NO USE and STARE last year, the outfit return in 2022 with a high octane new release recorded at guitarist and saxophonist Adam Ridgway’s family property in Wollombi NSW titled The Gutter.

With crunching distorted guitar riffs and high energy drum chops, The Gutter captivates with clever arrangements whilst its narrative observes classism and imbalances in power and equality. On the release, Dust share that ‘The Gutter’ was written during the recording of our first two singles. When Justin [Teale] wrote the riff, it stuck with us. We were constantly evolving the structure right up to the recording. Writing our music is a group process that we all connect [to] during. The dynamic between us five works smoothly and climatically, with ideas usually being something that excites everyone. We sometimes have a prepared idea, but the finished product is always something that surprises us.”

To accompany the dynamic track, the group teamed up with Nathan Rathsam of Two and a Half Studios to create “a visual representation of the themes behind the song and artwork.” Filmed over a couple nights in Sydney, it’s a clip that’s equal parts roaming and adventure.

Out tomorrow (June 29), experience The Gutter in all its glory now as we premiere it below.
