Soak up a new single of upbeat style fusing art pop sounds a day ahead of release.
Refusing to be pigeonholed or easily classified is the music of Coda Chroma, the Victorian musical project fronted by Ballarat-based singer & songwriter, Kate Lucas, as heard on their forthcoming single I’m Not Fighting It premiering on Pilerats today!
The opening cut of Coda Chroma’s forthcoming third album Dream-self, I’m Not Fighting It is an experimental slice of art-pop goodness, drawing on elements from psychedelic & indie rock, alt-folk new wave and more.
Brooding, swirling synthesisers meet gentle, jangly guitars and a driving rhythm section, while Lucas' ethereal vocals float in the mix, with the result managing to sound simultaneously nostalgic and fresh.

Of the single, Lucas says, “‘I’m Not Fighting It’ is about giving into my subconscious and allowing it to be my co-writer, trusting that it might have a truth or two on offer. I like the idea that my subconscious brain is always taking notes and feeding snippets to my dream-self who, from time to time, spits out a technicolour owl pellet in the form of a song. I truly don’t remember writing this song, it grew from an embryo into a fully formed thing one day and now here it is, but it serves a reminder to myself: take the offering, grab a net when the surface bubbles and the mirror shudders.”
