Premiere: Ainslie Wills shares Fear Of Missing Out video, album out next week

When discussing Australia's best songwriters, it's hard to look past Ainslie Wills. Throughout the last decade, Wills' emotionally-gripping approach to guitar-backed indie-pop has explored the intersection of lyrical poetry and tender musicianship, often combining moments of personal vulnerability with fragile, yet simultaneously empowering musical backings to create music which feels more like a moment, rather than just a song. It's something that was front and centre of her debut album, 2013's You Go Your Way, I'll Go Mine, and it's seemingly something becoming only amplified as she leaps towards her long-awaited sophomore, as proved in its singles thus far - 2017's Running Second, 2018 highlight Society, and this year's two-side Suzie / Fear Of Missing Out.

The full record arrives independently next week - August 9th - but in the meantime, we have something remarkably special to share in the Melbourne musician's latest visual offering - the clip to Fear Of Missing Out. Directed by Spilting Films, the video clip takes inspiration from an art piece amongst Ainslie's favourites, which she attempts - and succeeds - to mirror in visuals filmed through a sunset at the Cheetham Wetlands in Point Cook, Victoria. "The inspiration for this clip came from a painting by Graeme Drendel called Water Games," she explains. "I loved the simplicity of the idea that the guys from Spilting Creative came up with based on this painting, the rest, as they say, is history." It's simple - with the video largely featuring Ainslie front-and-centre, with the cloud-spotted wetlands behind her - but it carries the intimacy of the single in a way that wouldn't be achievable with something larger and more complex; it's evidence of the 'simplicity is key' motto, if nothing else.

All You Have Is All You Need, Ainslie Will's second album, is out August 9th. Following, she'll be rounding out August with a small run of east-coast album shows at the end of the month, where she'll be joined by O’ Little Sister, Bri Clark and Loni Rae Thomson in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne respectively.
