Fresh from playing Glastonbury and about to embark on a UK wide tour, we caught up with the Manchester-based outfit to learn all about them and their new EP..

Recently performing a much lauded set at Glastonbury, touring with Metronomy, and selling out their own headline shows, Manchester-based band Porij today unveil their highly anticipated second EP outlines. A release that combines club tropes and indie pop elements, with an infectious energy that translates from the rave-review live shows to their addictive studio recordings.

Discussing queer identities and mental health among other highly personal topics, “Lyrically, I think it's some of the most raw stuff I've ever written,” shares vocalist Eggy, continuing I'm not really hiding behind anything. I think we've had a lot of experiences over the past year, which have been intense. And it's really exciting to find that voice.” Equal parts exciting and captivating with a voice that radiates through infectious pulsating beats, deep-cutting bass lines, and sparkling synths, outlines is a vivid pop experience like no other.

To celebrate the release of outlines, we caught up with Porij before they embark on their full UK tour, to get to know them and their EP a little better. Be sure to hit play on Porij’s outlines, and take a read of what they had to say below.

Tell us about yourselves?

Egg: 24, London, swimming, attempting to learn Italian, buying jumpers on eBay, whatever adhd hyper fixation strikes next.

Jacob: 23, Wigan, football, reading, video games

James: 24, Oxford, Looking at camper vans on eBay, looking at houseboats on eBay, growing chillis.

Nathan: 25, Manchester, passion for finding the perfect pint of Guinness, cooking extravagant plant based meals, travel scrabble.

When and why did you start writing/producing/recording/performing music?

We first started writing music when we were studying at university. We were jamming in halls and got offered a gig in Leeds. We had a week to write a set, did the gig and haven’t stopped since then! Safe to say none of the songs in that set are still being performed now haha

How did porij form?

Same as above!

Tell us about your creative process?

Our creative process changes every time to be honest. Someone might write a whole song, someone might write a bit of a beat and we just bounce ideas back and forth. We don’t like to restrict the creativity which means we write in a variety of genres and have some pretty nutty songs.

Tell us about your new EP?

Our new EP is called ‘outlines’ (named after the final track). The title feels fitting as this is the last body of work we do before our debut album. It's got all the elements of what make up porij but we’re not showing you everything we’ve got in our arsenal - that will be unleashed with the album which will be full form porij. This EP was written over quite a long time, some songs were written over a year ago and some were written this summer. We write, record and produce it all in our bedrooms.

How can fans best support your music?

Keep streaming and sharing it with your mates. Come down to live shows if you’re about in the northern hemisphere any time soon and hopefully we’ll get over to you guys as soon as possible haha.

What's coming up for the rest of the year?

We’re doing the last of the summer festivals then we’ve got a headline tour around the UK! After that madness we’re gonna run away to write and record our debut record. Then hopefully some sleep…

What have you been listening to lately?

Absolutely obsessed with the latest Nilüfer Yanya album ‘Painless’. Also been listening to a lot of Joy Orbison, yune pinku, Cocteau Twins and Shygirl.
