Boorloo/ Perth based four piece Great Gable are a band that sonically capture all the best parts of being on the west coast in their own unique way. A couple of months ago we called it that they’ll be making their mark on 2022, and they have their trajectory set on just that, stepping into the triple j studio last month for their Owl City Fireflies Live a Version, and today as their highly anticipated sophomore album releases alongside a huge list of tour dates around Australia.
Since their inception in 2016, Great Gable have grown into an experienced outfit that continue to put in the hard yards, writing, recording, touring, and refining their easily identifiable brand of indie-rock, a sound that is true to them as seen in their Like A Version take and throughout their new album On The Wall In The Morning Light. Beautifully polished at Rainbow Valley Studios by Matt Corby and Alex Henriksson, the LP showcases the groups diversity in rhythm, tone and melody whilst being a cohesive package with a flow from track to track that just makes sense.

Dancing Shoes
This song is about taking chances and putting yourself out there. The song has an uptempo feel intended to make the listener feel excited and nostalgic at the same time.
Another Day
Another Day is about looking at things in hindsight and feeling restless when things don’t seem to be going on track. It’s also about chasing gratification from others when you should really first appreciate yourself and what you’ve achieved.
Sidewalk
This one is almost like a conversation piece, a tongue in cheek reference to narcissistic tendencies. How it’s totally fine to feel shit about something because we all actually feel the same way and everyones too worried about themselves anyway.
The Lookout
This one is about being unlucky in love. It was the first song we wrote after finishing our debut album Tracing Faces. It wasn’t intended to be on this album but we rehearsed it a few times in the album process and the shuffle feel was really cool so we just went with it.
Our Love
When you open the blinds and the sun shines on the one you love and all you can think about is how lucky you are :)
Hazy
It’s about remaining optimistic during tough times. Things always work out in the end if you stay positive.
If You And I
This is straight up about losing your lighter, we all know how much that sucks!!! We were recording the slide guitar with said lighter but someone kept pinching it…
When I Grow Up
A fun lil diddy about growing up and thinking you know what you want to be but when you get older you realise most people still don’t really know.
I Know
This song started from a bass chordal type riff, it became the song that we tried some really cool production tricks, and was predominantly drums and bass focused. Lyrically it is about that feeling of knowing you should have done better but you can’t help it sometimes.
Pedestal
Putting someone on a pedestal, perhaps someone you love, can be detrimental down the line. It’s aimed at appreciating the simple things.
Sirens
A slow burner acoustic on the album. This one tackles the idea of feeling anxious about something, and feeling like that’s all you can really think about. It can be overwhelming but there’s always someone that’s going to be there for you.
Do You Belong
A slacker rock tune about not really knowing where you belong, and the journey of trying to find your place.
