Australia doesn't have a lot of big R&B names, but the ones we do have are spectacular..
Being a nation so heavily built on alt-rock foundations (and more recently, electronic), Australia doesn't have much when it comes to R&B, certainly not enough in comparison to the US and UK where homegrown R&B seem to dominate the charts at any given time. The small number of R&B stars we do have, however, are all brilliant, and no different is the now Sydney-based Leng Hock. The formerly Brisbane-based R&B talent returned almost a year ago now with Discreet, which was then followed by the deeply-emotional and personal single All The Way, which detailed his ventures to the US - and brief detaining at LAX - to chase after the "love of his life". This week he returns with not one but two new singles, continuing to dive further into his crooning, R&B sound for This Way and Harvey. This Way is the woozier, more 'traditional' of the two singles, combining Leng Hock's brooding vocals with a sombre, yet still enticing production. Harvey on the other hand is more of an inventive and forward-thinking affair, bringing together a pulsing house beat with vocal samples and Hock's soaring vocals in a way comparable to DJDS - who count Kanye West as one of their biggest fans.
