It may have started out as a joke, but it turned into something magical..
Ready to jet off on his maiden tour of the US, Ta-ku has made a surprise return with a follow up to his July release, Songs To Make Up To. This new one is a complete rework of Estelle’s American Boy, complete with the trademark Ta-ku keys and a heaving string section, leaving you yearning for that guy/girl as he so often does. He drafts in close pal and stunning vocalist Wafia to add a layer of lustrous melody – as well as making his own proper vocal debut (onya Reggie it was a long time coming):
“American Girl started as a joke when I was watching old Kobe Bryant highlights and Estelle's American Boy was the soundtrack. I really wanted to make a stripped back #emotional version that would play on its really great melodic structure.”
Damn you, Ta-ku. Even your jokes are #emotional. He's playing shows in Australia at the end of the year, including Southbound Festival.
