A few months on from their acclaimed fourth album, Methyl Ethel are back with a new single ahead of their set at Splendour.
Just ahead of taking the stage at Splendour In The Grass on Saturday, July 23, today we get some new heat from the one and only Methyl Ethel, returning with the head-nod-inducing single Talk Louder.
With a different vibe to what we were treated to on their last record Are You Haunted?, Talk Louder’s boom-bap hip-hop style beat paired with big synthy chords and melodic bleeps and bloops are capped off by Jake Webb’s arresting falsetto vocals.
On the creation of Talk Louder, Webb explains “I recently made a few songs to play on a dock, in Fremantle harbour, in a pop-up township for an arts festival. I wanted to just make something fresh and free spirited, without too much thought, be instinctual. This, in part, is definitely a reaction to the album I just finished, which I worked on for about two years.
The whole song, lyrics and all came out very stream-of-conscious, nothing was written down. For me, they reflect a certain ‘caught in your own head’ feeling that, I suppose, was partially the impetus for the music to begin with.”
