twentyseven will arrive through the recently launched THAA Records on April 27..
At the end of last year, LANKS released My Own Mystery – a woozy, electronic-tinged collaboration with Ngaiire. At the time, he announced that it was the first single from his long-awaited debut album to expect "sometime in 2018", however, details on the album have been spread pretty thin-and-sparse in the time since. Today that changes, with the now-Sydney musician announcing his debut album twentyseven will arrive through the recently launched THAA Records – a new venture with UNIFIED and The Hills Are Alive Festival – on April 27, launching the record with the album's title track.
twentyseven (the single) is a more percussive take on LANKS' indie-electronic mash, bringing together his charming vocals with a howling instrumental that is soaked with thick layers of percussion and piano. It's one of those tracks which highlights his position as a triple-threat (a writer, vocalist and producer) in Australian music, something that'll no doubt continue on his debut album – which is bound to be incredibly personal if early quotes are to go by. "I always had the age of 27 as a milestone in my mind, because many of my heroes had passed away at that age and already achieved a lasting legacy," says LANKS on the album's title and message. "This album is a message to myself of humility as I confronted that fear of failure (that was excessive and unhealthy), challenged my own idea of success and questioned what sort of person I aspired to be."
