Have You Heard: Galloping Foxleys

Galloping Foxleys have been announced as part of the hefty local line-up for the State Of The Art festival on Monday, June 6, at Elizabeth Quay, with Jebediah, San Cisco, Ta-Ku, Koi Child and many more. Vocalist/guitarist, Shane Corry, brings us up to trot.

You recently played at the Fairbridge Festival, how was that?

Fairbridge was a real hoot. We got to play five shows; recorded a dripping wet cover of an Eric Bogle song; caught some killer music, had sweet jams and generally made a nuisance of ourselves.

You also recently won the 'Folk' category of the WAM Song Of The Year Award, that must be pretty satisfying as songwriters...

Who knew you could write a song about sex, drugs and chocolate icecream and get an award? It was a lovely surprise and we're really stoked about it. Our collective mammies and daddies were beaming with pride.

What's been the evolution of the band since forming via working at Mojos?

Well, we started as the Mojos house band for a one off New Year's Eve extravaganza and rocked the pants off all of the six people in the room. They begged for more so we gave it to them and started gigging as a four-piece rock band. The lovely, long-legged Shiny Joe Ryan offered to record us one day so we thought we'd add a little mandolin and violin for the sessions. An EP and an album later we still haven't got rid of them and I guess at this stage they're here to stay. We just brought in the vivacious James Dolin so now we are like seven wonders of the world.

What's it like to be on the State Of The Art festival?

We were all pretty amazed to see our band name swirling around Elizabeth Quay in crazy digital bliss! Can't wait for the festival, we got some new songs to try out.

What are the plans for the rest of 2016?

Recording a new EP this week, playing some more sweet shows, writing more songs, going on holidays, lots of chocolate ice cream and hopefully another album towards the end of the year.
