Yet again another beautiful surprise from Keiran Hebden..
You know those uplifting moments in a film when the protagonist prevails against evil and is on the comeback trail hard, welcome to the soundtrack, Planet.
Dropping just yesterday, this new piece again proves Four Tet’s wizard-like skills of production. What’s most apparent is his ability to layer a unique selection of sounds over a minimal bed. A ringing chime, techno jolts, vocal adlibs and the worldly sound of a mandolin meld over a 4x4 beat to create a beautifully urgent atmosphere. There’s a real feeling of euphoria in this track, it’s both calm and peaceful yet at the same time primed for the dance floor.
Following on from the release of Two Thousand & Seventeen, Planet is a welcome addition as a more club ready cut. These back-to-back single releases from Hebden are a very promising sign, suggesting the master is in writing mode! So watch this space…

Nothing else sounds like what Four Tet crafts, the mandolin draws my mind to far off locations like the Himalayas yet this is a tune made by a Londoner. And that’s what so cool about all this! Keep doing what you’re doing Four Tet as its pretty damn amazing.
