Three artists, dead or alive - sing with, write with and eat with…
Sing - Aretha Franklin
Write - Alicia Keys
Eat – Adele, because I think she’d be so funny to hang out with, haha.

What is your go-to vocal warm-up?
I feel like I do something different every time, haha, but I guess it’s usually a mix of scales, lip rolls, sirens and some straw. Then I have a sing of whatever song I’m recording/performing or a song that’s on my mind at the time!
The last time you got goosebumps/shivers from a voice was…
Probably Yebba. She’s one of my favourite current voices/discoveries! Also, I still get shivers when I listen to my old faves like Aretha and Whitney, I don’t think that will ever go away.
If you could be an animal, what would you be?
Some sort of bird so I could fly… maybe an eagle!
If you weren’t in the music industry, what would you be doing?
This is a really hard one because I’ve had this music dream since I was little and have never really considered doing anything else, haha! If I absolutely had to choose.. I think I’d study psychology and do something in that field!
What’s your dream city (or venue) to play a show in?
I’ve never thought about this! I think a customised venue where I could personally see to the sound, stage and lighting being to the specs I want. Somewhere where the audience is comfortable and maybe there’s a dope live stream as well. Haha! Let me know if ya know of a place!
You’re putting together a five-person vocal supergroup - who do you pick?
Lianne La Havas, Mick Jenkins, Yebba, Mary J Blige and Brent Faiyaz.
Who is your biggest non-musical inspiration?
A non-musical inspiration… tough! In the celebrity world it would be Conan O’Brian - his comedy, style and ability to connect with people is inspiring to me. In my community, it would be my long-time sis Naomi Moran who is the amazingly strong and resilient General Manager of the Koori Mail in Lismore. The Koori Mail has recently become the centre point of resources, rescue, recovery and support for the communities affected by the recent floods in the Northern Rivers. Knowing who she is and all that she has been through to be where she is now motivates me to be a better person and inspires me beyond compare. Visiting @koorimailnewspaper will fill you in on how you can support the communities to further recover from this awful natural disaster.
Funniest, scariest or most embarrassing moment on stage?
It wasn’t on stage, but the scariest moment would have to have been just last week gone, in the middle of the Boss Lady Tour supporting the formidable Jessica Mauboy when I woke up with laryngitis and couldn’t speak! Being back on tour after having been on the Rona Ride has left me with some unexpected long Covid symptoms that were triggered after staying in some black mould infested accommodation. Luckily I was able to get an emergency appointment at lunch time with a wonderful ENT specialist and speech pathologist in Brisbane who had me singing six hours later! Not being able to sing before a show is my career nightmare! Thank you Dr Matt Broadburst and Dr Leslie Henderson!
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Look, I love animals but if I had an obvious persuasion, it would be towards that of the cat! I have had cats all my life. One who recently passed, “River”, was the sole reason for my mental health staying on track during a rough time in the mid 2000s. The band I was in before being a solo artist, Sietta, released an album called The Invisible River and dedicated song to her!
The fur baby in my life now is a very vocal, involved, weird and magical seal point British shorthair called “Aayla Blue”. She’s my little shadow and sits with my while I record and hassles me when I work. She has many strange quirks and changes the minds of non-cat-lovers when they meet. She’s pretty special!
