These New South Whales (TNSW) live a double life: they're both a popular band on the Australian punk scene and comedy TV with their own show. While the show pokes fun at band life, TNSW take their music seriously, with their third album TNSW released late last year and finding its way to the Australian top 10. On Australian Music Is Bloody Great, the band's Jamie Timony guides us through some of the band's favourite current Australian acts.

I have been friends with these guys online for a while but have never seen them play. Finally, one night I went by myself to see them play and stood right at the front of the stage for some reason, I'm not sure why. After the show I introduced myself to the guys and we got along really well. We have been friends ever since. I love these guys and the music they make together is sick.

We are so lucky to have Gut Health supporting us on our tour around Australia through March and April. I first heard them on the radio one afternoon while I was driving. We were looking for supports for our tour at the time and I just loved what I heard. So when I got home, I emailed our manager and said 'let's get Gut Health' and the rest is history, as they say.

I saw CLAMM for the first time at a warehouse party in North Melbourne. I had heard a bit of buzz around town about them and was excited to check them out. They did not disappoint. I had goosebumps multiple times and the lead singer Jack is a real hunk.

I managed to finagle some tickets to Phoebe's Melbourne show one night when she was supporting Maple Glider at the Night Cat. After her show I got to speaking to Edvard, her guitarist, and we really hit it off. So much so that we got shushed by someone in the audience during Maple Glider's set! Fair enough, it is very quiet music. Anyway, this song gives me goosebumps, too.

This band holds a really special place in my heart. They gave us our first opportunity to tour Australia and play some massive venues for the first time. We ended up getting along so well that they invited us to come to Europe with them many months later. They even shared their tour van with us. Absolute gentlemen.

I remember hearing their first single, Smoko, which is a great song, on Sunrise or something. Honestly, subconsciously, I kind of wrote them off for that, which is stupid, but I did. It wasn't until recently that I took some time to actually listen to them and thought, 'Wow, I'm an idiot. This is a great band'. The Chats are the real deal, and the loveliest fellas you could ever meet.

The night we wrote this song, it came together extremely quickly in the rehearsal room, which is always a good feeling. Its working title was 'Ticket Out Of Here' because we felt it was our ticket out of here. We recorded an iPhone demo and sent it to our then-management. They wrote back [and said] 'this isn't a single'. Well, I'm sorry, but it was then and still is now.
